My Vision

Cultural Transformation: Restorative Practices vision for schools is about cultural transformation. The greatest transformation is the engagement of all voices in decision-making. Restorative philosophy asserts that there is wisdom in each of us and that together we are greater than any individual.  It is a shift in our mindsets that allow this to happen.  Talking with one another about the good and brainstorming ways to improve the situation when harm occurs.

Shared Power: The sharing of power needs to happen at each level. Teachers share power with their students. School administrators shares their power with teachers and parents. District administration share power with their schools. The sharing of power allows everyone to access the collective wisdom!

Grassroots Engagement: Sustainable implementation demands grassroots engagement of staff, students, parents, and administrators at the school and community members.

Everyone Slows Down: The circle process helps everyone to slow down and notice their thoughts, assumptions, and judgments so they can then be more intentional about their actions.   Restorative practices are designed to allow us to live and work together as humans in a good way. They lead us toward a pathway of cultural transformation that starts in schools and spreads to all our social institutions. Together students, parents, teachers, administrators and community members help create a culture where everyone belongs.

It’s reaching understanding and letting go of our need to be right.”         -Unknown
